The Abyssinian Longclaws, Macronyx flavicollis, are endemic to the African country of Ethiopia. Specifically, they can be found in the western and south eastern highlands of Ethiopia except in the extreme north. They inhabit subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland and arable land.
This species endangered due to habitat destruction.
Description
The Abyssinian Longclaw is very similar in both appearance and behavior to the Yellow-throated Longclaw (Macronyx croceus) which occurs in other parts of Africa.
They are named for their unusually long hind claws, which are thought to help in walking on grass.
Ecology
They are ground-feeding insectivores and ground nesters, laying up to four speckled eggs.
