The Black Cuckooshrike (Campephaga flava) is found in the following African countries: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It lives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, dry savanna and dry shrubland.
Description
They are small to medium birds with long and slender bodies.
The plumage is predominantly black, greyish with white and yellow markings. The males have glossy black plumage and bright yellow wattles. The females are more duller in coloration, with an olive-green plumage.
Diet / Feeding
They mostly feed on insects, caterpillars, small vertebrates, and some fruit, seeds and other plant matter.
Breeding / Nesting
Cuckooshrikes appear to be mostly monogamous. They construct cup nests that are situated in trees.
The average clutch consists of about 4 eggs, which are incubated for about two weeks.
