The bushshrikes are smallish African birds that inhabit scrub or open woodland.

They feed on insects and other small prey, hunting them from a perch on a bush.

Some subspecies are colorful, while others are mostly black.

Some bushshrikes have flamboyant courtship displays. The average clutch consists of 4 eggs that are placed in a cup nest in a tree.
