Celestial Monarch (Hypothymis coelestis)

The Celestial Monarch (Hypothymis coelestis) is endemic to the Philippines where it is usually found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest areas.

The Celestial Monarch is described to be one of the most attractive of all the monarch flycatchers. It has a spectacular blue crest and large yellow eye-ring.

Diet / Feeding

It is insectivorous, often hunting by flycatching.

The numbers of Celestial Monarch is declining rapidly. Recent surveys reveal its presence at only 10 sites.

Widespread and continuing reduction of its lowland habitat leaves its population severely fragmented.

According to the Red Data Book of Threatened Birds of Asia, its status is considered vulnerable.
