The Crimson-crowned Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus porphyraceus) is also commonly referred to as the Purple-capped Fruit Dove, which may lead to a confusion with the Beautiful Fruit Dove (also known as Crimson-capped Fruit Dove).
This fruit dove is found in American Samoa, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Wallis and Futuna Islands, where it inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland and mangrove forests.
As suggested by their common names, these color-ful doves mostly feed on fruits.
