The Golden-bellied White-eyes (Zosterops uropygialis) – also known as Kai White-eyes or Little Kai White-eyes – are endemic to the islands of Kai Kecil (or Little Kai Island) and Tual in the eastern Banda Sea, Indonesia. They are found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
They are closely related to the Pearl-bellied White-eye (Zosterops grayi) and are by some considered conspecific (one and the same species).
This species is threatened by habitat destruction mostly due to its small range which is restricted to just two islands.
However, within their tiny range, they remain fairly common and appear to have adapted well to degraded habitats.
Nonetheless, they are vulnerable to extinction and are, therefore, currently listed as Near Threatened.
