The Green Imperial Pigeon (Ducula aenea) is widespread resident breeding bird in tropical southern Asia from India east to Indonesia.
They are not very gregarious, but will form small flocks.
Description:
This is a large plump pigeon, 45cm in length. Its back, wings and tail are metallic green.
Its head and underparts are white, apart from maroon undertail coverts. Males and females look alike.
Its flight is fast and direct, with the regular beats and an occasional sharp flick of the wings which are characteristic of pigeons in general.
Breeding / Nesting:
They build their stick nests in trees. The hen usually only lays one eggs, which she incubates.
Diet / Food:
It feeds on plant material in the tree canopy, as well as frequenting bird feeders in their vicinity.
Call / Song:
Its call is deep and resonant.
