Green-and-black Fruiteater

The Green-and-black Fruiteater (Pipreola riefferii) is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela where it inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montanes.

 

Diet / Feeding

As suggested by this species’ name, these birds mostly eat fruit or insects.

 

Description

Cotingas have broad bills with hooked tips, rounded wings, and strong legs.

The males have a green plumage with a black head and yellow markings, while the females’ plumages are mostly plain.

 

Breeding / Nesting

Males will mate with several females. The females alone care for the eggs and young.

They construct cup nests.
