Hypocnemis contains the following species:
- Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis cantator: Consists of six species of antbirds that until recently were considered a single species found throughout the Amazon in South America, where they are generally common. Based on vocal differences and to a lesser degree differences in plumages, it has been recommended treating them as separate species:
- Guianan Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) cantator: The Guianan Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest in the Guianas, far eastern Venezuela and north-eastern Brazil (north of the Amazon River and east of lower Negro River and the Branco River).
- Imeri Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) flavescens: The Imeri Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest in southern Venezuela, south-eastern Colombia and north-western Brazil (west of the Branco River).
- Peruvian Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) peruviana: The Peruvian Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest in south-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, northern Bolivia and western Brazil. It is locally sympatric with the Yellow-breasted Warbling Antbird.
- Yellow-breasted Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) subflava: The Yellow-breasted Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest, especially in association with bamboo, in south-eastern Peru, northern Bolivia and south-western Brazil (Acre).
- Rondonia Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) ochrogyna: The Rondonia Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest and woodland in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Rondonia, and adjacent north-eastern Bolivia.
- Spix’s Warbling Antbird, Hypocnemis (cantator) striata: As presently defined, the Spix’s Warbling Antbird includes a two subspecies, implicata and affinis. The westernmost population is likely to represent an undescribed subspecies. The Spix’s Warbling Antbird is found at lower levels in humid forest in the south-eastern Amazon of Brazil.
- Yellow-browed Antbird, Hypocnemis hypoxantha: Found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
