The members of this genus have an overall dark plumage and extensive yellow, orange or reddish facial skin.
Melipotes contains the following species:
- Spangled Honeyeater (Melipotes ater)
- Smoky Honeyeater (Melipotes fumigatus)
- Arfak Honeyeater (Melipotes gymnops)
- Wattled Smoky Honeyeater (Melipotes carolae)
