The South Georgia Pipit (Anthus antarcticus) is a sparrow-sized bird that only occurs naturally on the South Georgia archipelago – a group of remote islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.
It is the only song bird in the Antarctic and the only and the only passerine (perching bird) on South Georgia, which is mainly inhabited by seabirds.
Nesting / Breeding
It builds nests from dried grass, and lays four eggs a year.
Diet / Feeding
Its diet consists ofinsects, spiders and beach debris.
Status
This continued existence of this species is threatened by the introduction of rats to the islands, as well as habitat destruction.
