Parrot Breeder Standards
Every breeder in our directory applied to be here and signed the six promises below. We are not a rating site and we do not rank breeders. We tell you what each one agreed to, and whether anyone has checked their paperwork.
Promise 1
No bird leaves before it feeds itself
Chicks stay until they eat on their own and hold a steady weight. Nobody hands over an unweaned bird to a first time owner.
Promise 2
Parents are named and kept well
The breeder can say which pair a chick came from, and keeps those adults in space they can fly in, with daylight, enrichment, and rest.
Promise 3
Health is written down
New birds are held apart before joining the others, and the breeder keeps records of tests, weights, and any treatment a bird received.
Promise 4
Buyers get the truth up front
Lifespan, noise, mess, cost, and the daily hours a parrot needs are said plainly before money changes hands, not after.
Promise 5
The bird can always come back
If life changes, the breeder takes the bird back or helps place it. No bird ends up passed along to a stranger by itself.
Promise 6
No pressure selling
No deposits taken on birds that do not exist yet, no rushing a family, and no discouraging anyone who asks about adoption instead.
What the two labels mean
Listed Breeder means they applied, signed the promises, and filled in their own details. Nobody has seen documents.
Verified Breeder means someone on the Beak School team reviewed documents they sent, such as health testing or a licence. It is a paperwork check, not a visit and not an endorsement.
Please look at adoption first
Plenty of parrots already need a home. Before you contact a breeder, look at the birds seeking a home and the rescues near you. If you still choose a breeder, use these promises as your list of questions.
If a breeder breaks a promise
Tell us. Send what happened through our contact page. We read every report, ask the breeder for their side, and remove listings when the promises were broken.
